WaterFurnace International has introduced the Envision® 30-ton water source heat pump, which the company says offers efficiencies that exceed ASHRAE 90.1 standards. Featuring a modular, take-apart design, the 30-ton unit can be moved into a building in two different sections, providing a reduced weight, smaller footprint, and improved maneuverability. Each piece fits in freight elevators and through doorways for convenience. When the unit is ready for installation, the sections can be rejoined.
Distech Controls has introduced the EC-Smart-Air, the latest addition to its Allure™ communicating sensor series. Designed for projects that require precise environmental sensing, the EC-Smart-Air is a three-in-one sensor, combining temperature, humidity, and CO2. Distech Controls says its latest offering allows for time and cost savings with a single device to be mounted, wired, and commissioned.
Uponor North America is offering a PEX purple pipe in sizes up to 2 in for commercial and residential reclaimed water applications. In addition to its existing .50-, .75- and 1-in sizes, Uponor AquaPEX® Reclaimed Water pipe is now available in 1.25-, 1.5-, and 2-in sizes as well.
The NCC1991 condensing tankless water heater from Noritz America delivers a thermal efficiency of 95%, using natural gas, with an input range of 16,000 to 199,900 Btu. The company says this enables the unit to meet the hot water needs of larger residential applications as well as a wide variety of commercial projects. The NCC1991 is the low NOx version of Noritz’s NCC199 condensing tankless unit.
Designed with the needs of building owners and their specifying engineers in mind, Cambridge Engineering has introduced a new line of Blow-Thru® Direct Gas-Fired Space Heaters to heat smaller commercial and industrial facilities.
Schaffner EMC introduced the ECOsine® Active 200/250/300A, a harmonic filter providing harmonic compensation in real-time for industrial and commercial environments. With a capacity of 300A, operating at 480VAC (+/- 10%), the connection-ready 200/250/300A (three-wire) cabinet models include forced air cooling and internal liquid cooling for the power electronics. The company said filters are capable of supporting large production facilities.
Century Refrigeration, a division of RAE Corporation, has released the new Centinel™ Intelligent Defrost Control System. Company officials report that the control system improves refrigeration system energy efficiency, eliminates icing and fogging, and reduces operating costs.
Johnson Controls has released a new Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) that meets ASHRAE 62.1 fresh air requirements. The company says the DOAS delivers up to 100% clean, dehumidified outside air in all weather and climate conditions.
Greenheck has expanded its collection non-actuated fire dampers in the marketplace. Now available in widths as great as 144 in and heights up to 100 in, the company says the Model DFDAF-310 represents a 20% dimensional increase over dampers previously available for a 1.5-hour dynamically-rated fire damper with airfoil blade construction.
Power management company Eaton has developed the XLM Supercapacitor Energy Storage Module designed to provide fast discharge for bridge events in uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) for mission critical applications. The modules offer a green alternative to lead-acid-batteries and are designed to be maintenance free for grid storage and backup power applications.
Many engineers tend to avoid or delegate the nitty gritty of a ground source heat pump system, from soil moisture effects to building system (im) balance. It's time for designers to get in the loop.
