The shared experiences of implementing and operating these interoperable systems have generated a valuable body of knowledge for those embarking on interoperability and Web access.
Interoperable systems also communicate with each other as well as with a common workstation. This allows the different systems to share information and increases the control and effectiveness of the overall installation without increasing the number of control points. For example, an outside air temperature sensor from one system could also serve different systems in different buildings on a campus.
