The current illnesses from the new coronavirus outbreak, and the associated human fear, has renewed people’s interest in the potential of the indoor environment to contain disease transmission.
The device cleans contaminated air and prevents it from spreading to different sections of a hospital; potential future uses include homes, businesses, and assisted living facilities.
The expanded firm will blend the experience of both entities, combining specialization in the design of educational, government, healthcare, recreational, industrial, and manufacturing facilities.
Working with University of California Irvine Beall Applied Innovation, faculty members from The Henry Samueli School of Engineering and the Claire Trevor School of the Arts designed a face shield and assembled and tested prototypes within six days.
