CarrierThe Carrier® Infinity® 20 heat pump with Greenspeed™ intelligence was recently voted No. 1 in the category of forced-air cooling equipment at HVAC Comfortech 2011, a heating and cooling industry event. The panel of industry judges selected the Carrier heat pump product due to its innovation, efficiency and usefulness. Carrier, the world’s leader in high technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Earlier this year, Carrier unveiled the Infinity heat pump with Greenspeed intelligence, which has an HSPF efficiency rating up to 13. The Infinity 20 heat pump has the highest heating efficiency of any ducted, air source heat pump on the market. When paired with the Carrier Infinity modulating gas furnace with Greenspeed intelligence, it delivers the ultimate Hybrid Heat® solution for colder climates. With cooling efficiencies of up to 20 SEER and variable speed compressor technology, this new heat pump is also ideal for superior cooling and dehumidification in regions with warmer temperatures and high humidity.

“Carrier is honored to receive a Comfortech Showcase Award for its Infinity heat pump with Greenspeed Intelligence,” said Bob Swilik, manager of product marketing for Carrier Residential Systems. “It is not only the highest heating efficiency ducted air source heat pump available, but it provides dealers with the ultimate Hybrid Heat® solution when paired with the Infinity modulating gas furnace, and optimal dehumidification in cooling mode. Now dealers can provide homeowners with heat pump applications within a wider range of outdoor conditions than previously possible.”

The new heat pump fluidly adjusts its output within a range of up to 40% to 100% of capacity to match the heating or cooling requirements of a home. This innovation was made possible by pairing the superior communication ability of Carrier Greenspeed intelligence with a Copeland Scroll® variable speed compressor from Emerson Climate Technologies, optimized specifically for this heat pump.

The Infinity heat pump delivers up to 69% higher heating efficiency in the three-ton size. This new heat pump is capable of providing warmer leaving air when outdoor temperatures fall into the teens. Under similar conditions, standard heat pumps may deliver cooler leaving air as outdoor temperatures decline. And, when temperatures fall below the teens, a Carrier Hybrid Heat dual fuel system will automatically switch from electric to gas heating for maximum comfort and heating economy.

During hot and humid weather, standard heat pumps can effectively cool and dehumidify the home. Under moderate conditions, which occur most of the time, standard systems run at full capacity for shorter periods of time and have less opportunity to dehumidify the air, which can result in an uncomfortable indoor environment. The variable speed capability of the Infinity heat pump with Greenspeed intelligence allows it to take comfort to the next level— providing superior cooling and dehumidification. As the heat pump cools, it is able to achieve optimal humidity comfort levels without the help of auxiliary equipment in most homes, saving homeowners money.

“In addition to the variable speed and Greenspeed intelligence capabilities associated with this new heat pump, dealers will appreciate the easy installation features we integrated,” added Swilik.  “The Infinity heat pump has a two-wire control connection to the Infinity gas furnace and advanced diagnostic capabilities accessible from the Infinity control.”

The Infinity heat pump with Greenspeed intelligence can be utilized with an upgraded Infinity control software package that constantly monitors a wider range of critical system parameters, including suction pressure and compressor temperature. This intelligence helps ensure performance efficiency, optimized comfort and reliable operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
