A Fellow ofASHRAEhas been appointed to a National Academy of Sciences panel on countering terrorism.Lawrence Spielvogel, P.E., a consulting engineer in King of Prussia, PA, will serve on the "Science and Technology for Countering Terrorism: Panel on Energy Facilities, Cities and Fixed Infrastructure." He is the only heating, ventilating and air-conditioning engineer on the panel.

The panel is one of several panels operating under the Academy's Committee on Science and Technology for Countering Terrorism. Panelists will identify current concepts and opportunities for research that will reduce the nation's vulnerability to terrorism directed at energy facilities, buildings and other essential, fixed infrastructure elements. A report from the panel will be issued in fall 2002.
