The Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST) has released ISO/FDIS 14644-2, “Cleanrooms and Associated Controlled Environments, Part 2: Specifications for Testing and Monitoring to Prove Continued Compliance with ISO 14644-1.” IEST serves as secretariat for ISO T/C 209, which developed the paper as part of a series of 11 documents to serve the needs of the global contamination control community.

ISO/FDIS 14644-2 specifies requirements for monitoring and periodic testing of a cleanroom or clean zone to prove its continued compliance with ISO Standard 14644-1 for the designated classification of airborne particulate cleanliness. The control of airborne particulate contamination levels is an important factor in several industries including aerospace, microelectronics, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, health care, and food as well as many others.

IEST believes that successful documentation hinges on achievement of widespread agreement.
