The enhanced ZigBee standard: more control, more choice
The ZigBee™ Alliance, a global ecosystem of companies creating wireless solutions for use in residential, commercial and industrial applications, announced the completion and immediate member availability of its enhanced version of the ZigBee standard - a global wireless communication standard enabling the development of easily deployable low-cost, low-power, monitoring and control products for homes, commercial buildings, and industrial plant monitoring. Public availability of the standard is scheduled for the first quarter of 2007. The original ZigBee standard was ratified by members in December 2004 and enables a wide range of products.
"The enhanced version of ZigBee arrives at a time when there has never been greater need in the world to have more control over our homes and businesses -- especially when it comes to reducing energy consumption," said Bob Heile, chairman of the ZigBee Alliance. "From a business perspective, Alliance members enjoy a strategic advantage in time-to-market, lower development costs and with lower overall risk. They're using those benefits now to create products addressing energy management, m-commerce, building management, home convenience and security needs, to name just a few applications perfect for ZigBee."
