For many years, duct products have often involved significant on-site measurement and construction, bringing certain advantages and risks. Here, that practice is com-pared to the use of listed ductwork, with an eye on duct integrity, hood connections, clearance to combustibles,
fire ratings, and more.
At Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the mission was an air handling overhaul without interrupting the usual delivery of care. The project team delivered a safer, upgraded environment via a new desiccant system, air handlers, increased flexibility in the surgical suites, and more.
With this year coming to an end and a new business year starting next month, this is a good time for a first-time manager to stop and take one last look at her first year business plan and assess how things went relative to the company’s goals; the employees within the group’s goals; and the group’s sales, revenue, and operating budget.
Circumstances converged to construct a pair of plants on campus in a short timeframe. However, these projects weren’t identical twins by any means: different needs, locations, and other factors drove some major differences, from cooling towers to standby power.
Continuing on with Part 2 of the discussion on troubleshooting problematic HVAC systems and buildings, I want to get a little more detailed with how to grasp the big picture when starting out with problem solving an installation.
On all projects, the need to provide reliability, accuracy, and safety need to be carefully considered as part of the overall design, but when we start looking at critical environments, these requirements become paramount in the design process.
