Danfoss has announced its second annual EnVisioneer of the Year award competition.
Launched at last year’s International Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Expo, the competition recognizes U.S. end users, building owners and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that have introduced a new product, opened a new facility or invested in a building or system upgrade in the past 18 months using Danfoss products or solutions to realize significant energy and/or environmental savings.
Interested participants may enter the competition by submitting an application no later than April 29, 2011, to Lisa Tryson, director, corporate communications and public relations at Danfoss. A distinguished team of judges representing different disciplines in the heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) industry will review all applications and select the winner.
“Last year’s winner, Mars Super Markets, set the bar high with an energy efficiency program that saved the company more than 3 million kilowatt-hours per year at its retail stores, distribution center and corporate headquarters in Baltimore, Md.,” said Robert Wilkins, president of Danfoss North America. “The Mars initiative clearly demonstrated a winning approach to energy efficiency that successfully combined engineering innovation and environmental responsibility.”
Mars installed LED lights and used Danfoss anti-sweat heater controls on its refrigeration cases and Danfoss variable-frequency drives on motors that run its heating and cooling systems. To recognize the company’s achievement, Danfoss donated $5,000 on behalf of Mars Super Markets to the Alliance to Save Energy, an environmental advocacy group committed to advancing energy efficiency policy in the United States.
“The opportunity to publicly recognize the award winner’s achievement and at the same time, support the efforts of other organizations that are also working to advance energy efficiency enhances the value of the EnVisioneer of the Year award,” Tryson commented. “This year, we are proud to recognize the EnVisioneer of the Year with a donation in their honor to Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities.”
Rebuilding Together’s network of more than 200 affiliates provides extensive renovations and modifications to the homes of low-income Americans, at no-cost to the homeowners, making the homes safer, more accessible and more energy efficient.
“We are delighted to be named the recipient of this donation on behalf of the 2011 EnVisioneer of the Year,” said Gary Officer, President & CEO, Rebuilding Together. “Rebuilding Together’s green housing initiative reduces the impact on the environment through resource-efficient repairs that lower energy consumption and save homeowners money. As a result, our affiliates are able to provide energy efficient, safe and dry homes that are affordable to live in and improve the quality of life for their residents.”
The 2011 EnVisioneer of the Year award will be presented following the 15th Danfoss EnVisioneering Symposium.
