Building safety and fire prevention professionals from across the nation will be able to expand their knowledge and better serve the public in their jurisdictions by attending the Code Official Institute or the Fire Prevention Institute.

Both institutes are top-notch education events designed specially for code enforcement professionals. The two institutes will be held April 25-28, 2004 at the Building Safety and Fire Prevention Event in Portland, OR. Attendees will have the opportunity to earn continuing education units, prepare for certification, interact with expert instructors and network with peers from around the country.

The Code Official Institute focuses on enhancing communication, personnel and financial management skills, and legal and ethical aspects of code administration. It also prepares code officials for the ICC Certified Building Official examination, the highest building official certification.

The Fire Prevention Institute addresses key requirements in the 2003 International Fire Code. Attendees will discuss current issues and solutions to fire code enforcement issues with leading fire prevention authorities. Among the topics covered in the institute are fire protection systems and means of egress.

The Washington Association of Building Officials, Washington State Association of Fire Marshals, Oregon Building Officials Association and the Oregon Fire Marshals Association are sponsors of this event.
