Another Tool in the Tool Box—How UA Members Are Training and Using 3D Solutions in Piping Projects
In the summer of 2014 the United Association (UA) started a new course to teach their membership the use of laser scanning equipment and related software to create highly accurate three-dimensional point clouds of existing buildings and mechanical systems for the use with BIM applications. Pat Ramirez and Erik Lambrecht were tasked to create the new course which lead to a partnership with FARO.
Since then the UA has continued training by holding a yearly train the trainer class at their annual training week with certified instructors. These instructors are there to assist the 300 plus UA training centers, located across the United States and Canada, to administer Laser Scanning classes to help qualify the over 300,000 members of the United Association. Erik Lambrecht will discuss the relationship between FARO and UA and their training success that has turned a laser scanner into a common tool for UA welders, pipefitters and plumbers in North America.
