Understanding the Effects of Harmonics and VFDs in Electrical Systems
Harmonics in electrical systems are normal occurrences due to non-linear loads such as AC to DC supplies and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs). This webinar will provide an understanding of what harmonics are in electrical systems and how VFDs create them.
We will review how the IEEE Recommended Practice and Requirements for Harmonic Control in Electric Power Systems (Standard 519) applies to harmonics disturbances at a system level, as well as explain the importance of understanding the Point of Common Coupling (PCC).
Additionally, this presentation will provide options for mitigating harmonics when applying VFDs to electrical systems so that systems may remain within the IEEE Standard 519 limits.
Join us to:
- Understand what harmonics are, as they pertain to electrical systems
- Discover how Variable Frequency Drives create harmonics
- Comprehend how IEEE Standard 519 applies to harmonics in electrical systems
- Learn how to mitigate harmonics when applying VFDs
