Utilizing Digital Communications for Power Monitoring and Management
Even if society takes it for granted, virtually all of the critical infrastructure for communications, security, emergency services and life safety depend on power. Unfortunately, climate change and record weather extremes will continue to increase the likelihood of frequent and extensive utility power interruptions, as well as risks to life and property. In the face of rising utility outages and energy costs, managing and monitoring today’s power and power backup systems has become more important than ever.
Consequently, more and more facilities are installing advanced, on-site, and remote digital monitoring of their electrical systems. While basic alarm and control functions can still be handled by simple dry contacts and annunciator panels, progressively more power systems are utilizing digital communications to deliver far more granular information on facility operating conditions and availability of alternative distributed energy resources and equipment.
This webinar will discuss the digital communications components and systems, as well as the various protocols and standards.
Learning Objectives:
- Discover the benefits of digital communication systems.
- Recognize the various terms, protocols, and standards utilized in digital communication systems.
- Identify the basic elements of digital communication systems.
- Examine opportunities to implement or upgrade to digital communication systems.
