ASHRAEhas reported that its 34,500-sq-ft Atlanta-based headquarters has been awarded a LEED® Platinum Certification in the New Construction 2.2 rating system.

According to a press release from the Society, the building is one of only six in the state of Georgia to receive a LEED Platinum rating, the highest certification the program offers.

There are five measurement criteria considered by LEED during the evaluation of new construction projects, including energy efficiency, IAQ, water savings, site development, and materials selection.

To address these criteria, ASHRAE installed a white reflective roof membrane to minimize heat island effects, more than 75% of the existing structure was used to minimize impact, and water consumption was reduced by 50% through the installation of low-flow fixtures.
