The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) has announced its 2014 board of directors. Jim L. Whitaker, principal and senior vice president of HKS, Inc., will serve as DBIA’s chairman of the board.

Whitaker is a 28-year industry veteran in both design and construction executive roles. As principal and senior vice president at HKS, Inc., he leads the federal government and design-build groups. He is a licensed architect, NCARB certified for nationwide reciprocity, and a Designated Design-Build Professional™.

“DBIA’s board of directors is comprised of owners, architects, engineers, design-build construction contractors, specialty trade contractors, and transactional professionals to reflect DBIA’s growing and diverse constituency,” said Whitaker. “As we focus on advancing ‘Design-Build Done Right’ best practices in the coming year, the influence and commitment of this board is a testament to DBIA’s role as the industry-recognized go-to resource for design-build project delivery.”

Additional membership elections to DBIA’s board of directors leadership include Peter Kinsley, vice president of water at Haskell, who will serve as vice chair; and William Quatman, general counsel at Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co., who will serve as treasurer.

In addition, four new directors will join DBIA’s board of directors for 2014. They include: John Bale, P.E, DBIA, MBA; Brian Day, DBIA; Roger Johnson; and H. Thomas McDuffie, Jr, AIA, RIBA.
