Carrier has expanded its highest efficiency commercial rooftops, the WeatherExpert™ Series, to include models up to 150 tons. The WeatherExpert line boasts Integrated Energy Efficiency Ratio (IEER) ratings up to 20.6, which meet or exceed the Consortium of Energy Efficiency (CEE) rebate levels. They also meet or exceed all current ASHRAE 90.1 energy requirements, with some models exceeding standards by more than 70%, making them eligible for a variety of state and utility rebates. Similar to other models in the Carrier Weather Series line, the WeatherExpert 6- to 150-ton units were designed to maintain product familiarity by taking advantage of common parts from existing Carrier rooftop designs, and will be released throughout 2013.

The WeatherExpert rooftop units were designed in collaboration with customers.

“It’s a compliment to our customers who collaborated with us that the WeatherExpert rooftop units won recognition in the Cooling Category for the 2013 AHR Expo Innovation Awards Competition,” stated Greg Alcorn, vice president, commercial sales and marketing, Carrier. “With the addition of these 15 models, Carrier will have its most comprehensive and efficient rooftop lines ever, with units ranging from 3- to 150-tons.”

The new WeatherExpert 6- to 22- ton units will be available with three stages of capacity control utilizing scroll compressors and ECM (electronically commutated motor) outdoor fan motors. In addition, the indoor fan motor is controlled by Carrier’s Staged Air Volume (SAV™) system to precisely match fan operation to the staging compressors. These units will be available in gas/electric, electric/electric or cooling only, and offered with a range of factory options, such as energy-efficient air economizers, smoke detectors, and much more. Units will be field-convertible to horizontal airflow for easy match at the jobsite.

Offered in standard and high efficiency/capacity models, the WeatherExpert 75- to 150-ton units will be available in cooling only, cooling with gas1, electric or hydronic heating. These new units also have double wall foam panels and Novation® Heat Exchangers with microchannel technology. Designed for flexibility with numerous pre-engineered and certified factory options, units include air management devices with diagnostic tools and a mix of airflow capabilities.

“The WeatherExpert units deliver optimal comfort and energy savings at both full- and part-load conditions,” added Alcorn. “Our comfort-control logic operates the multi-stage system to provide what our customers are looking for – smart, efficient operation.”

All WeatherExpert units feature Puron® refrigerant (R-410A), provide easy access for routine maintenance, are supported by Carrier’s eDesign Suite and integrate with Carrier’s i-Vu® system controls.
