TheAmerican Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE)of the American Hospital Association (AHA) today announced that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Associate Under Secretary for Energy Richard F. Moorer launched the EnergySmart Hospitals initiative during the ASHE Annual Conference and Technical Exhibition in National Harbor, Maryland.

According to the DOE, hospitals are facing increasing burdens in their quest to provide optimal quality patient care.  The EnergySmart Hospitals program focuses on energy management and provides hospitals with the tools and resources that will assist them discover and implement innovative, cost effective, proven technologies and design strategies to maximize energy performance.  The goal of the program is to dramatically reduce energy use and operating costs, and at the same time lower greenhouse gas emissions.

The program is designed to bring together industry leaders and associations, such as ASHE, in an attempt to implement efficient and renewable energy technologies for all hospitals. For more information please contact Susan Rubin at 312-422-3810 orsrubin@aha.org.
