A guideline that describes how to reliably measure energy savings due to building energy management projects has been published by ASHRAE. ASHRAE Guideline 14-2002, Measurement of Energy and Demand Savings, meets the need for a standardized set of energy and demand savings calculation procedures, according to committee chair George Reeves.
The guideline can be used in transactions between energy service companies and their customers and between companies and utilities, where the utilities purchase energy savings. It provides guidance on minimum acceptable levels of performance in determining energy and demand savings in commercial transactions, Reeves said.
