The company says its Smart Bypass Controller minimizes harmonic distortion produced by variable frequency drives (vfd’s) during peak loads, while improving vfd efficiency by up to 5%. Unlike conventional circuits that are only used for “emergency” bypass operation, the company says its product uses a patent-pending, solid-state controller to monitor vfd system requirements (demand, speed, and load) and to minimize harmonic distortion automatically. The Smart Bypass will allow most users to meet the requirements of IEEE-519, a “recommended practice” that limits the level of harmonic distortion imposed on a power system without adding costly hardware, says the company. — Saftronics Ft.
