Phelps Memorial Hospital (Sleepy Hollow, NY) recently choseAbacus Engineered Systems(Seattle) to review and upgrade the hospital's main energy plant through a comprehensive energy-related performance contract estimated at $4.6 million. The scope of the project consists of replacing two aging centrifugal chillers, two cooling towers which will allow for proper heat rejection in the facility, and a major renovation of the hospital's boiler plant in order to condition the indoor environment and provide comfort year-round. Additional energy savings will be realized with air distribution system improvements, water conservation measures and efficient lighting. Once completed, the energy efficiency work will save Phelps Memorial Hospital about $580,000 in annual energy and utility-related costs, lowering electrical consumption by 1.8 million kWh.
