Combined U.S. factory ship-ments of 705,599 central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for March were down 4% compared to shipments from the same month last year, according toAir-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute(ARI) (Arlington, VA) statistics. Heat pump shipments of 145,597 were up 9%, compared to March 2000.
