CAD-Layered Record Drawings for Facility Management
Today it is standard procedure to provide CAD drawings as the record drawings at project closeout of a construction job. Most of us in the building industry have been very proud of this high-tech achievement of providing our clients with CAD documents. Designers and builders have worked hard to get to the point of blending the software skills of designers with the software skills of mechanical and electrical trade contractors.
It is time to "raise the bar" for CAD documentation by reflecting on how we got here and where we go from here. To do this, we will address the issues associated with CAD layering in a two-part commentary beginning with the current process of building the computerized design drawing.
