A method to rate the energy efficiency of building designs that exceed the minimum requirements of Standard 90.1-2001 has been proposed byASHRAE(Atlanta). ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1-2001, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings provides the minimum requirements for the design of energy efficient buildings. The standard is written in mandatory language and is intended for code use.

The proposed addendum was approved for a first public review at ASHRAE's 2002 Annual Meeting held in Honolulu last month. Public review dates will be announced on ASHRAE Online. Addendum 90.1e would create an informative appendix for rating the performance of building designs that exceed the minimum requirements of the standard.
