The California Building Standards Commission has voted to not use the International Building Code™ as part of its effort to update the California Building Standards Code. The Commission will continue to use the 1997 Uniform Building Code™, as well as the 2000 editions of the Uniform Fire Code, Uniform Mechanica Code, and the Uniform Plumbing Code as the basis for the 2001 edition of the California Building Standards Code.

The International Association of Plumbing & Mechanical Officials, and the Western Fire Chiefs Association have joined with the National Fire Protection Association to produce a full set of consensus codes for the built environment. NFPA also is in the process of developing The NFPA 5000 Building Code™.
