Recently I was reviewing an existing building's computerized control system and realized that this system, like so many other building automation systems (bas), was designed, installed, and used as a reactive management tool. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner, but sometimes "the obvious isn't obvious!" As a result, here are some ideas to retrofit existing bas software to be proactive rather than reactive. This same approach can be applied even easier when initiated during the schematic phase of a building program. Getting it right the first time is always the most cost-effective method of facility management.
