Illinois Tech Professor Scott T. M. Dawson Receives NSF CAREER Award
CHICAGO — Scott T. M. Dawson, assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, Illinois Institute of Technology, received a prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER award to develop new methods for significantly reducing the computing time needed to model turbulent flow in fluids.
Turbulent flow, a type of fluid motion characterized by chaotic and unpredictable changes in speed and direction, is an important area of study for a wide range of applications, including aerodynamics, wind energy, and cardiovascular health. However, modeling turbulent flow using traditional methods can be computationally expensive and time-consuming, limiting the ability of researchers to explore and understand these complex phenomena.
