The design, construction and operation of energy efficient, high performance buildings in developing economies have been identified by the building industry and policymakers as a key area where technology, standards and other activities are needed.
Issues and challenges that need to be addressed include: the anticipated fast rate of economic growth in many of these economies as they strive to catch up with Western counterparts and the consequential increase in global energy demand; the large population base in most developing countries; cultural differences relative to those countries where much of the advancement in sustainable building technology has occurred; and, the large fractions of population in rural settings, along with the high rates of population movement from rural to urban areas.
This conference will examine how these issues are affecting the building and HVAC&R industries and to discuss technical solutions to support high performance buildings in developing economies. The conference will also focus on building design approaches that are responsive to local needs and utilize traditional construction practices, and how to apply the latest technology to achieve cost effective solutions.
The conference will combine a call for papers with invited speakers (both local and international). Electronic proceedings will be produced including papers from invited speakers and extended abstracts by those responding to the call for papers.
Conference attendees will be drawn primarily from the local practitioner community – designers, consulting engineers, equipment manufacturers, contractors, government officials, and non-governmental organizations.
Interested authors are invited to submit technical, non-commercial abstracts on the topics listed below no later than August 16, 2013. The abstract should not exceed 400 words. In addition, five (5) keywords are requested.Authors can choose to prepare a conference paper up to 8 pages in length or an extended abstract 2-5 pages in length.
Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their abstracts by September 15, 2013. Full papers are to be submitted, in PDF format, based on the guidelines in the Authors Resources (below), after the acceptance of abstracts. The complete text of the paper should be submitted by November 15, 2013 on the Microsoft Word template provided. See below for more on ASHRAE’S Commercialism Policy and peer review process.
