Improving Backup Power Performance with Energy-Efficient Critical Loads

Power outages are costly - by some estimates, up to $164 billion per year to the US economy (EPRI, 2001). So when the grid is down, reliable power becomes the highest priority concern for organizations that have critical loads. And though back-up power is essential for an organization's continuity of operations, the critical loads served are often inefficient. In these cases, reliable backup power is compromised, as fuel will be exhausted much more quickly than otherwise. In light of recent severe weather events, this webinar will present and discuss economic costs, public health impacts, and business impacts from power outages. Additionally, this webinar will discuss Integrated Backup Power Plans as part of the solution, and how to leverage an ASHRAE Level 2 energy audit to produce one. An Integrated Backup Power Plan incorporates energy-efficiency of critical loads, on-site renewable energy, and traditional backup power into a comprehensive plan.

How to Calculate Backup Power Supply Requirements for Your Facility

On-Demand This webinar reviews how to determine power requirements of facility loads; electrical characteristics and impact of different types of loads such as large motors and UPS systems on power supply sizing; acceptable power sources and other constraints applied by building codes; and how software tools can be used to simplify the process of calculating backup power requirements.
