GridWeek, which will be held September 22-25 in Washington, will focus on the role of the smart grid in delivering sustainable energy. Samuel W. Bodman, U.S. Secretary of Energy, will be the keynote speaker. Other speakers include Jeremy Rifkin, president of the Foundation on Economic Trends; John Kelly, senior vice president and director of IBM Research; Bob Gilligan, general manager of GE Energy Transmission & Distribution; Enrique Santacana, president and CEO of ABB Inc.; and James Rogers, CEO of Duke Energy.

New for 2008 is the International Smart Grid Summit which will be held on Monday, September 22. According to planners, the summit is designed to bring together thought leaders from key world regions to provide an update on drivers and implementation plans from each region. The summit is a platform to create a collaborative environment, exchange ideas, review technologies and compare notes on best practices of implementing Smart Grid in a timely manner to address this truly global problem.
