Carel introduced two new models of its humiSonic Humidifiers family. Featuring 10% energy consumption, 10,000 hours of operation, and 1 ų water droplet size, the company says its new humiSonic direct was designed to provide energy-savings solutions for direct room humidification, while the humiSonic ventilation is ideal for duct installation. The compact plug-and-play products join the company’s humiSonic compact, which is installed in fan coils.
Uponor PEX pipe and ProPEX® expansion fittings are now available in 2.5-in and 3-in sizes. The company says the new sizes offer professionals the ability to specify, design, and install even more commercial plumbing and hydronic piping systems with PEX.
Bosch Thermotechnology Corp. launched a new sealed combustion high-efficiency stainless steel boiler line with condensing technology. The Buderus SSB Series consists of a total of eight models in four separate cabinet sizes with inputs ranging from 85MBH up to 1,024MBH, and are applicable for use in small studio units all the way up to commercial buildings.
Victaulic says it has developed the first grooved piping system for saturated steam and condensate piping. Designed for use on commercial and industrial steam applications, the system features the Style 870 rigid coupling, a full line of fittings, and pipe preparation tool roll sets to process the new OGS-200 groove profile.
Danfoss has unveiled its new VLT® DriveMotor FCM106/FCP106. The VLT® FCM106 is a 0.55 to 7.5 kW drive mounted as a factory package on either an induction or permanent magnet motor. The VLT® FCP106 utilizes the same 4X drive, and, when purchased with an adaptor plate, can be mounted on the customers’ choice motor. A wall mount kit allows the drive to be mounted separate from the motor if needed.
Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc. has developed the new CITY MULTI® L-Generation water source condensing systems. Combining the efficiency of water source with VRF, the company claims the next-generation W-Series systems offer enhanced efficiency ratings across all categories. The systems feature single modules up to 20 tons, with the ability to combine single modules for systems up to 30 tons. W-Series systems can also be integrated into specialized water-side designs, such as geothermal or existing closed water loops.
Titus has introduced the new FlowBar architectural linear diffuser system. Officials claim the diffuser has been designed to maximize engineering performance without sacrificing aesthetic considerations for the designer. The company also says FlowBar’s performance allows higher airflows than conventional linear diffusers.

The Jumbo Series is an ideal fabric duct solution for large airflow distribution requirements in high-ceiling or high bay spaces such as athletic stadiums, convention halls, aircraft hangers, industrial buildings, and other applications.
Leaning on experience and data from various K-12 cities and projects, the author pursues some less conventional design approaches. They may revolve around radiant heating and/or cooling, but depending on school size and other factors, the smart use of heat recovery, DOAS, and improved central plants could also put a project on the HVAC honor roll.
