"Green standard" ASHRAE 189.1 goes online

Published by ASHRAE after four years of development, the new ASHRAE Standard 189.1 provides minimum requirements for the siting, design, construction, and plan-for-operation of high-performance green buildings.

As the first code-intended commercial green building standard in the United States, the new standard is developed in model-code language and applies to all buildings except low-rise residential buildings.

In addition to mandatory provisions, the new standard provides prescriptive and performance options for all topic areas, which include:

 • Site Sustainability
• Water Use Efficiency
• Energy Efficiency
• Indoor Environmental Quality
• The Building’s Impact on the Atmosphere, Materials, and Resources
• Construction and Plans for Operation
