The Z-Duct-SPL plate heat exchanger has recovery efficiencies up to 65%, says the manufacturer. Its design features a counterflow heat exchanger with no moving parts and uses a blend of desiccants in a synthetic fiber media. The company says its counterflow heat exchanger design reduces the potential for air leakage by eliminating one-half the seals found in conventional crossflow heat exchangers. The Z-Duct-SPL is designed to recover both the temperature and moisture contained in the exhaust air and transfer the recovered energy to precool and predehumidify outdoor air in the summer. It is also designed to preheat and prehumidify outdoor air in the winter.
