AK Steel(Middletown, OH), a leading integrated steel company, recently announced that it is donating antimicrobial-coated steel toHabitat for Humanityof Butler County, Pennsylvania, for use in constructing the second home in the nation to include microbe-resistant steel. This donation is AK Steel’s second to the Habitat project; the company previously donated steel construction materials and $60,000. The microbe-resistant steel is coated with the AgION™ antimicrobial compound, a safe, natural antimicrobial agent that controls the growth of bacteria, molds and fungi. Seal-Tite, a sheet metal duct, pipe, and fitting manufacturer based in Hillsboro, OH, will use the steel to manufacture the home’s hvac ductwork. Installation begins this summer.
