Ruskin’s XP500 was developed for the most extreme weather conditions. According to the company, protecting wall penetrations from flying debris caused by tornadoes, hurricanes, and severe storms is critical in the design of Community Shelters (ICC-500) and Safe Rooms (FEMA 361). Officials also said the extruded aluminum design and 5-in depth allows Ruskin to offer the lightest FEMA grille (13 lbs. per sq ft) in the industry. Rated for 266 psf wind load and tested to withstand a 15 lb. 2 x 4 missile impact at 100 mph, the XP500 meets or exceeds the building envelope protection requirements.
