This column is a continuation of last month’s topic addressing the coordination that needs to be focused solely on HVAC controls during the construction phase of a project. Concentrated, serious, and multi-team member coordination is critical for improving the chances of the control systems performing as required when functionally tested during the acceptance phase.
Within the context of a traditional project delivery process, this coordination will revolve around the HVAC controls submittal review. The design engineers are responsible for thoroughly reviewing and approving the submittal with commissioning-related input from the commissioning professional. One increasingly common occurrence that I want to address here is when the controls contractor cuts and pastes the sequences of operations text from the design engineers’ specification into the controls submittal.
