On April 17, 2012, a team of researchers at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) performed a shake table test on a full-size building with a Baltimore Aircoil Company (BAC) PT2 Cooling Tower.

The five story building, filled with hospital equipment, computers, and including elevators, piping, cooling towers and numerous non-structural elements, was tested to the levels of earthquakes such as the 2010 San Pedro earthquake in Chile. The testing took place atop the outdoor shake table at the Englekirk Structural Center at UCSD in San Diego, CA, and is part of the National Science Foundation’s 14-site national Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation.
