We’ve been burning the candle at both ends this month to give you a worthwhile answer to the question you might have asked yourself recently if you’ve told us that you specify, design, or purchase boilers: “What’s this other magazine with theESin this plastic bag”?

November means the next issue of Today’s Boiler, the official publication we produce for the American Boiler Manufacturers Association. If you work with or have responsibility for a commercial boiler, then you may know it’s not a boring time in terms of just trying to maintain business as usual. Not only have new EPA regulations been taking a torturously drawn-out path toward full implementation, but ASME has its own code changes when it comes to the instruments that measure boiler drum water levels.

This issue of Today’s Boilerhas articles on handling both horns of that regulatory bull. Also, ABMA President Randy Rawson provides his own take on the House of Representatives’ most recent vote to delay the EPA process further. Don’t miss it on page 4 of Today’s Boiler, followed by six articles from various member companies.November means the next issue of Today’s Boiler, the official publication we produce for the American Boiler Manufacturers Association. NOT JUST BOILERPLATE INFO

OK, honestly, I ran out of room in Today’s Boilerfor one other news item, so let me share it with you here. One ABMA member, Spirax Sarco, has launched a pretty rare initiative: publishing its own boiler-centric digital magazine serving managers, operators, and engineers working with steam plants.

Steam Newswill come out quarterly, and it is said to contain relevant “editorial, steam tips, and training opportunities to improve plant production, sustainability, and energy efficiency.” It will also include info on products, emerging technologies, and the latest from the manufacturer.

We’re not typically in the business of promoting other magazines, but companies should be lauded for trying to spread the good word when it comes to best practices, and we figure that if you’re interested in the subject matter then you might have room for both of us.

SPEAKING OF WEB ADDRESSES …

It’s not easy to talk about the internet in a print magazine. I mean, you can, but it’s a little awkward for the reader since you can’t click and go right to the website being discussed. Worse, are you going to bother actually checking it out if the webpage we’re talking about has an address like http://www.webpage.com/section/DHA/guidelines/d3kt8d0s/htm.?

We didn’t think so.

Thus, we’re trying a couple of new things for this month’s feature on web resources for health care facilities looking to increase their education or performance in terms of sustainability. We’re taken those ugly URL’s and made custom URL’s that are much easier for you to actually use. So instead of something convoluted like the example above, it would be more like www.esmagazine.com/hcChicago.It looks like it is on our site, but it will take you to the right page on the organization’s site with no problem. I checked them all myself.

We’ll do one other thing to cross the print/internet divide presented by these kinds of articles. Starting right around the time you should receive this issue, we will highlight each resource in the article in its own status update on our Facebook page. That way, if you just can’t be bothered to type in the simpler URL, just “like” Engineered Systems Magazineon Facebook, and we’ll deliver a little intro blurb and each resource to you for easy clicking and perusing at your leisure.

I think we unearthed some pretty good stuff there, so take us up on the info however you like. See you next month.

Correction

In the October issue, our Products section inadvertently included info for a Hydrotherm product that was not new and did not reflect the manufacturer’s current offerings and technology. We regret the error, and you can view a proper entry for the company’s latest boiler on page 56.
