Industry Leaders At The Helm Of SBIC Board

Their leadership will play a pivotal role in driving the Council’s Beyond GreenTM message to the next level. The SBIC Executive Committee members are: Gregory L. Crawford, vice president of operations, Steel Recycling Institute, American Iron and Steel Institute; Deane M. Evans, FAIA, executive director, Center for Architecture and Building Science Research, New Jersey Institute of Technology (; Ron Burton, vice president of codes, Standards & Regulatory Affairs, BOMA International (; Michael A. Bell, president, the Bell Company and SBIC Representative for the National Association of Home Builders (; Thomas A. Newton, consultant, Knauf Insulation (; and Carl E. Smith, LEED® AP, CEO/executive director, GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) (

“It is a pleasure to recognize the newly seated and continuing membership of the 2008 Executive Committee as the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council goes Beyond Green for high-performance buildings through education, outreach, advocacy and the mutual exchange of ideas,” said Greg Crawford, chairman of the council. “The ExComm enjoys a unique breadth and depth of collective experience and knowledge that will positively inspire and guide our efforts for the board of directors in yet another exciting year.”

“The council is fortunate to have a slate of officers that represent such distinct sectors of the industry,” said Sophia Greenbaum, executive director. “The new officers will guide us in our effort to take building design, construction, and performance Beyond Green. From commercial building owners, to home builders, to material suppliers, across the board we all agree that high-performance buildings are better buildings.”
