Meggitt Sensing Systems,a Meggitt group division, has announced that its Endevco® model 72 high-G piezoresistive shock accelerometer series has been honored with a 2011 “Best of Sensors Expo Award” Silver recognition, under the Sensors category. The award was presented bySensors Magazineduring the Sensors Expo and Conference held June 6-8 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL.

Featuring a 20,000 g measurement range, the Endevco® model 72 high-g piezoresistive shock accelerometer series offers a Class 3 rating (>4000 V – Human Body Model) for integral ESD protection and light gas damping, attributes which allow the product to offer the attenuation of resonance and dramatically enhanced shock survivability, particularly within applications where actual shock levels may not be actually known.

Their patented, monolithic, four-active arm bridge circuit design (U.S. patent number 6,988,412) incorporates a highly sensitive MEMS sensing element in a low-profile, miniature, hermetically sealed LCC package, weighing just 0.16 gram, for significantly minimized mass loading effects. The LCC package can also be SMT-mounted using production pick-and-place machines and reflow solder for easy installation.

Integral mechanical stops are included to increase ruggedness and reduce the likelihood of breakage under overload conditions, with stability and reliability to 4x over-range and a frequency response extending down to dc (steady state), as well as a minimum post shock zero shift and broad frequency response. The series is designed to support a variety of high-reliability acceleration, vibration and shock measurements, and especially, long duration shocks associated with a variety of automotive, aerospace and general test and measurement applications, including weapons testing, OEM consumer electronic products testing, fuze/safe and arm, and high-shock data recorders.
