ecobee unveiled its second product, the ecobee Energy Management System (EMS), at the 2010 AHR Expo in Orlando.

Designed for the commercial market, the ecobee EMS is meant to be ideal in applications where a simple thermostat does not provide adequate controls and functionality and a full-scale building automation system is too complex and cost prohibitive. The ecobee EMS was designed to be extremely easy to use, to reduce operating costs and to deliver increased energy conservation.

“We developed the ecobee EMS to accomplish the same goal as our Smart Thermostat – green made easy,” explained Stuart Lombard, president and CEO of ecobee. “HVAC contractors, business owners and building managers all pointed to a serious gap in intelligent and affordable commercial energy management systems. The ecobee EMS was developed to fill that gap.”

The EMS comes with a dedicated web portal that allows users to remotely control and monitor HVAC systems as well as to, identify, analyze, and troubleshoot performance issues. This means greater control and better diagnostic capabilities resulting in standardized conservation policies across a portfolio of properties.

The ecobee EMS has a full-color touchscreen and offers multiple occupied and unoccupied schedules. Using the EMS, a building manager can create standard operating procedures across multiple properties and compare, contrast and audit energy consumption levels for each property. Users can also configure the ecobee EMS to send alerts and service reminders.

Because installation of the ecobee EMS is consistent and predictable, there is less time spent on-site. The guided “Installation Wizard” function leads the technician through each step of the process. The ecobee EMS can manage an unlimited number of thermostats in multiple locations across diverse geographies. The product allows for grouping of thermostats which simplifies management and the flexibility to provide multiple users with varying operating permissions.
