Environmental Systems Design (ESD), an international firm focusing on sustainable design of the built environment, has named David P. Callan, P.E., CEM, HBDP, LEED AP, a senior vice president and chief technical director.

In his new position, Callan will serve as head of ESD’s Technical Directors and Building Sciences Group to promote excellence and innovation in building design.

A LEED-accredited Professional, Certified Energy Manager, High-Performance Building Design Professional and Professional Engineer, Mr. Callan specializes in the design of high performance and sustainable building projects.  He has extensive experience in the design and analysis of building systems and energy saving measures for new and existing buildings worldwide, as well as researching and developing analysis techniques for new building technologies.  He has been involved in the design of a variety of high-performance project types including: LEED® certified commercial and institutional buildings, federal buildings, sustainable healthcare facilities, green critical facilities and data centers, and zero energy buildings.

Callan serves as a GSA Design Excellence National Peer and authored GSA’s Facilities Standards PBS P100 Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Chapters for the 2005 edition. His work was honored with the ASHRAE Excellence in Engineering Award. In 2007, he was named as one of Building Design + Construction Magazine’s Top 40 under 40.
