The National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) is seeking nominations for its Green Development Award, honoring a member-developer for an outstanding project that best utilizes green elements in design, energy usage and development.

This is the second annual award for green development sponsored by NAIOP, the nation's leading organization representing the interests of commercial real estate executives engaged in industrial, office and mixed-use development.

"The Green Development Award is an exciting and important contribution to the green building movement," said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO, and founding chairman of the USGBC. "This prestigious award will encourage real estate developers nationwide to engage in green development, helping to lead the transformation of our built environment to green. We look forward to working with NAIOP and its members to create a healthy and sustainable future."

Developers choosing to nominate their company's project will be asked to submit a full packet of materials that outline how it best exemplifies innovation, efficiency, and quality in the field of green development.

Criteria for the award include the following:

  • Sustainable sites
  • Indoor environmental quality
  • Water efficiency
  • Energy and atmosphere
  • Economic sustainability
  • Materials use

Established in 2005, the award was developed to recognize the growing number of firms engaged in green development. NAIOP and its member companies, who are committed to developing model properties adhering to the highest standards in the industry, believe that socially conscious development is essential to the economic vitality of the industry and the nation.

"NAIOP's Green Development Award is confirmation that its members place a tremendous value on responsible, sustainable development," said Thomas J. Bisacquino, NAIOP president. "Our members are seeking to develop model properties with environmentally friendly approaches that benefit everyone - communities, tenants, and property owners alike."

The 2006 award winner will be named in August, and then honored at development ‘06: the annual meeting for commercial real estate, NAIOP's conference, October 30-November 2, in San Francisco.
