The Sustainable Buildings Industry Council (SBIC) is holding a High Performance School Buildings sustainable design and facilities procurement workshop on December 6, 2001 in Washington, DC. Designed for architects, school superintendents, engineers, community leaders, and school facilities procurement personnel, the one-day workshop takes a practical, results-oriented approach to designing and constructing high performance schools.

Studies have shown a direct link between schools that integrate sustainable design components (daylighting, natural ventilation, and healthful indoor environments) and improved academic performance. The workshop focuses on how to build energy-and resource-efficient schools using proven methods and cost-effective, whole building design strategies.

The morning session offers guidance for building procurement teams on the ways and means of securing high performance school facilities. The afternoon session—for architects, engineers, and school facility planners—presents specific strategies and techniques for designing a high performance school building. A special discounted rate is available for those attending both sessions.

Additional workshops are scheduled for Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. For more information access the SBIC website at http://www.SBICouncil.org or call 202-628-7400, ext. 211.
