The company says its six-page “Application Aid #19” document explains the North American and European classification system in clear and practical terms and is designed to help make temperature sensor selection for hazardous environments easier. According to the manufacturer, engineers and installers find the brochure extremely useful by providing the information to specify equipment for hazardous areas. Among other discussions, the brochure addresses the differences between explosion-proof, flame-proof, intrinsically safe, and nonincendive equipment; the distinction between the various types of hazardous (or classified) areas; and whether an instrument can be safely installed in a particular area. It is fully illustrated and drawings show the components of an explosion-proof temperature sensor and an intrinsically safe installation.
