J. Thomas Chapin, general manager of the Fire Protection Division of Underwriters Laboratories Inc., will be the keynote speaker at the seventh annual Fire Suppression and Detection Research Application Symposium, hosted by the Fire Protection Research Foundation of theNFPA(National Fire Protection Association).

Fire protection engineers, fire prevention officers, code enforcers, and others from the fire safety industry are urged to attend the event, which will be held January 22-24, 2003 at the Holiday Inn Select Orlando International Airport, in Orlando, FL. The symposium will feature more than 25 papers on the latest research in fire suppression and detection. Keeping with foundation tradition, the theme is "bridging the gap" between practitioners and researchers, and between fire protection and fire suppression.

Two special sessions will be featured: one on uses of new suppression and detection research in Sweden, Latin America, and China, and the other on the new testing capabilities of major fire suppression and detection laboratories in North America - ATF, FM, NIST, NRC-Canada, SwRI.
