The Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association(RETA) (Glenview, IL) unveiled a new certification classification for entry-level operators on October 6. Operators who pass the new certification examination will achieve the Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator credential. The new program was developed in response to industry requests for a way of measuring whether operators moving into industrial refrigeration jobs have the knowledge necessary to function safely in an engine room under the supervision of a more experienced operator. RETA's existing entry (B) level certification program covered a wider base of knowledge and is being replaced by the new program. The new examination is 100 questions and is based on two texts: Industrial Refrigeration I and the safety content of Industrial Refrigeration IV. Both are published by RETA.
