Changes to the Florida Building Code (FBC) have deeply impacted the
building supplier and manufacturer industry. The changes have required the
industry to adapt in ways that have affected how they do business while keeping
in mind the structural integrity of building structures.
This letter refers to Howard McKew’s “Tomorrow’s Engineer” column in the September 2006 issue of Engineered Systems<, titled “Cleanliness During Construction” (page 98).
I was pleased to read the responses to my recent letter to ES (and contribution
to AutomatedBuildings.com, titled “Technology Contracting: The Future is Now”).
So often, our technology forums lack input from representatives of our
endusers. This open and frank feedback is, I believe, an indication of a vital
and growing industry that is ready to move forward.
This
letter is in response to the article “Breaking Tradition” by Roger Howard,
which appeared in the November 2006 issue of Engineered Systems (page 52).
I chanced upon Terry Hoffman’s letter in response to Paul Ehrlich’s
article titled, “Help Wanted: Building Systems Architect” in the November 2006
issue of Intelligent Buildings Today. Since I had read Paul
Ehrlich’s article with considerable interest, and have had significant contact
with Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI), personnel in recent weeks, I was most
interested in what Mr. Hoffman had to say.
